Clay Balanced Plate

Description: This lesson was centered around a balanced plate when it comes to eating. A good balanced plate has fruit, vegtables, grain, dairy, and protein. Each student was given a ball of clay and prepred it by throwing it on the table to release the air bubbles and then rolling it out. Once the clay was rolled out we chose three foods to create. I chose a strawberry (fruit), cucumber (vegetable), and bread (grain). We traced it out into the clay and the cut it out. Once it was cut out we used water to help mold it into the shape wanted and helped make it look nice. Then we let the clay dry a little bit before painting. After it was dry I painted each piece to make it look realistic.

Extension Activity: If I were to do an extention activity with this I would have student create all five parts of a balanced plate and create a plate to put their food on. This would help students remember what they should have on their plates for each meal.
